North American Jr. & Young Rider
Gold medals are just the beginning. The North American Junior and Young Rider Championships taught us not only how to win, but how to ride for a team. We compete for ourselves on a weekly basis, but preparing for and competing in these championships brought our game to a whole new level.
Regardless of discipline, regardless of the decade, this championship has continued to fulfill dreams and give riders the opportunity to take the next step into the international spotlight.
For some competitors at these championships, it's the final chapter in their equestrian career before they head off to college but for many of us, it was our first chance to compete for our country, and the first chance to hear the national anthem of our nation played in our honor. Something we hope to hear again on an even larger stage.
These Championships continue to grow and looks more like a Youth World Equestrian Games than the Junior Olympics that it once was. Five of the eight FEI disciplines are now included as championships as Dressage, Eventing, Jumping, Reining and Endurance and Vaulting and Para-Equestrian both make exhibition appearances. This is the only event of its kind in the world, and the only FEI Championship held annually in North America.
Hosted throughout North America since 1979, riders like Stephen Bradley, Karen O'Connor, Greg Best, McLain Ward, Todd Fletterich and Kate Poulin have all won medals at the NAJYRC and gone on to represent the U.S. at Olympic, Pan American or World Games.
We believe that this Championship is a key piece of developing the future of our sport and ask that you join us in supporting this cause. It is the most important piece of the Developing Rider program that we have right now in the United States and we are inviting you to be a part of it with us.
